Millrose Games Gallery Part 2
Wanamaker Mile
We’ve already talked about how crowd energy + field quality = peak racing. See Part 1 of our Millrose Games gallery for that. So what else is there to say? Wow, just wow – that’s what.
A new indoor world record in the men’s Wanamaker Mile, as well as a second place that was also within the old record. Of course, we’re talking about Yared ‘The Goose’ Nuguse (3:46.63) and Hobbs Kessler (PB: 3:46.90). The previous record of 3:47.01 was set by Ethiopian runner Yomif Kejelcha in 2022.
Australian hero Cameron Myers broke another world record, for the U20 Indoor Mile, with his third place 3:47.48. With this result, he also matched Olli Hoare’s outright outdoors national mile record from the Bislett Games in 2022. Myers is unstoppable. American Gary Martin also demanded attention when he posted the second-fastest collegiate indoor mile in NCAA history, the eighth fastest-ever time outright.
And what a finish in the women’s Wanamaker Mile! UK athlete Georgia Bell threw down a late surge to clinch a personal best and the win in 4:23.35. Hot on her heels were US runners Heather Maclean and Nikki Hiltz, who also achieved a PB. Less than a second separated the front five athletes. Australian Linden Hall, who led for a good part of the race, racked up a 4:24.58 PB in her first visit to the Millrose Games. Her efforts rank her the second-fastest Australian of all time across the short-track distance.
